NZ Landcare Trust
Sustainable Land Management Award 2008

Applications are now open for the NZ Landcare Trust Sustainable Land Management Award.

This award has been established by the New Zealand Guild of Agricultural Journalists and Communicators and is sponsored by the NZ Landcare Trust. The Award is to recognise high quality communication and effective analysis of local, national and global agribusiness and environmental factors that impact on the sustainability of farm businesses.  Environmental sustainability underpins New Zealand’s rural wealth creation, and the award will encourage the identification of social and economic benefits that build integrated resilience.

Entries should be for two articles, columns, programmes or presentations in any medium. If a presentation is entered, supporting material such as power point slides or speech notes must be provided. Only one entry per person, unless also part of a team entry.

This award is open to any New Zealand-based journalist and is not restricted to NZGAJC members.   However, an entry fee of $25 is required for non-members.

Entries must have been published, broadcast or delivered in the 12 months to August 31 2008.   The Award can be made to a group or team. If a team wins the Award, it is to be shared between those named on the entry form.

The Award will be judged on the overall quality of writing, how interest is captured and complexity explained, and also on the choice and relevance of any supporting information. In particular, readers have to be informed by what they read, and develop an understanding of the role sustaining our natural capital plays in underpinning agribusiness in New Zealand’s economy.

The judges will not consider aspects out of control of the entrants e.g. layout, headlines and other display problems.  Entrants must make clear on the entry form which aspects of the submission were beyond their control.

The winner will receive $500. Judging will be in September and the prize awarded at the Guild Awards Dinner in Wellington on 18 October 2008.  Where necessary, the costs for the winner to travel to the Awards Dinner will be paid.

Entries should be on A4 paper; tapes ready to play. THREE copies of the entry must be submitted, with three copies of the entry form and three named A4 pages giving background details.

Post to:  Awards Administrator, NZGAJC, P O Box 54 234, Mana, Wellington 5247; or   Courier to: Sue Miller, 112 Pope Street, Camborne, Wellington 5026.     Phone 04 233 1842; email kotuku.media@xtra.co.nz.

Entries close Monday, 15 September at 5.00 pm.
